Council Responsibilities

The Areyonga Council has aimed, through its funding and programs, to facilitate a strong, healthy and viable community. Particular emphasis has been on health, training and employment.

To facilitate this, Council have pursued and independent health service model and seek as much training and education for members of the community as possible.

The role of the Council is to listen to the voice of the people in the community and whenever and wherever is possible, provide the essential services and infrastructure that is required.

The Council has a deliberate policy to limit ouside contractors wherever possible with most of the service delivery performed by our local workforce. The lack of sustainable employment in the area means that the Council is one of the main empoyers.

Provision of housing to eligible tenants from the housing stock of 33 houses which is managed by the housing maintenance officer under the supervision of the CEO.

Garbage collection is twice weekly and performed by our workforce using a Garbage Compactor.

The town area and buildings, roads, cemetery and airstrip are maintained by the local workforce.

Areyonga has a population of approx 215 people - mostly supported by Centrelink. There is no CDEP on the Community therefore little financial resourses. CEO is reponsible for finding and organising projects on the community.
